For the first time in four decades, the round of 16 of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers will host two Canadians.
Bianca Andreescu of Ontario and Rebecca Marino of British Columbia have overcome the obstacles and will head into battle on Centre Court at IGA Stadium today.
At 11 a.m., Marino, who’s certainly the revelation of the tournament, faces seed no.1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
Afterwards, the increasingly formidable Maria Sakkari of Greece will go head-to-head against two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka (8).
Coco Gauff and the surprising Johanna Konta will then bring the day session to a close.
The evening promises to be just as exciting. At 7 p.m., current titleholder Bianca Andreescu (2) will grapple with Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.
In the late match, Danielle Collins of the US will be looking to extend her 12-match winning streak and outplay her countrywoman Jessica Pegula.
Rogers Court will host three matches this afternoon. Katerina Siniakova of Czechia and Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain star in the first. American qualifier Amanda Anisimova and Karolina Pliskova (4) of Czechia will brawl in the second, and Petra Kvitova (7) of Czechia and Camila Giorgi of Italy will round out the day’s schedule.
